I love painting with watercolors, mixing them on my palette and watching them merge on paper. I love how colors near each other vibrate and how they make my eyes feel.
I love the feel of brushes on paper – the slight drag against paper's tooth as it grabs minuscule bits of minerals to make finely sculpted shapes, or flowing over large swaths of white, transforming them into forms pale or intense, textured or smooth.
It makes me happy when others enjoy looking at what has emerged. Perhaps the love and joy I feel when making these paintings is embedded within them, and that they forward that energy to the people who look at them.
Although a calendar may seem like an odd vehicle, it's a way that the energy of this work can reach out more people than would ever see the actual paintings. I like that it gives broader access to that energy. Few can pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to hang an original in their home or office, but it's affordable to have a collection of paintings hanging wherever you like all year long! (Less than five cents a day if you like numbers.)
Twelve new paintings (the 2019 calendar) will go on press this week. I hope that many, many people will receive them, enjoy them, and feel brightened by them in some way. It is one small way I participate in "mending the world."
Thank you for that opportunity.
